Italian Red River Workshop
Welcome to the first workshop of Red River AI water management, which will take place on 13 Settember 2024 at the University of Brescia, Italy.
During the workshop, we will discuss the current status of the Red River project, focusing on its challenges and developments. There will be also the participation of Vietnamese professor Ngô Le An who will share insights and strategies to address key issues in this important environmental and infrastructural initiative.
Location
The event will be held at the University of Brescia in the Department of Civil, Environmental, Architectural Engineering, and Mathematics (DICATAM), specifically in the Aula Riunioni at Via Branze 43. Furthermore, it will also be possible to attend the event online at the following link.
The workshop will start at 14:30 and end at 18:00. For a detailed overview of the event schedule, please see the section below.
Event Schedule
14 : 30 - 14 : 40
Welcome
The workshop will start with a welcome greeting from Professor Roberto Ranzi, who will set the tone for the event and introduce the key topics to be discussed. His opening remarks will highlight the importance of collaboration and knowledge exchange among participants, emphasizing the workshop's focus on addressing significant challenges and fostering innovative solutions.
14 : 40 - 15 : 25
Invited talk: Problem Statement
Professor Ngo Le An will introduce the main issues related to the Red River basin during the workshop. His presentation will focus on the key environmental, hydrological, and socio-economic challenges facing the region, including flood risks, water resource management, and sustainable development.
15 : 25 - 16 : 00
A hydro-meteorological model for the Da river
Dr. Quang Trinh Toan will present a a hydro-meteorological model for the Da river. This model has the objective to provide accurate forecasts of water fluctuations, crucial for effective management and response strategies. Attendees will gain insights into how the model operates, its predictive accuracy, and its potential applications for mitigating the impacts of flooding and ensuring sustainable water resource management in the region.
16 : 00 - 16 : 20
Coffee Break
16 : 20 - 17 : 00
Presentation of the AI Planning approach
Dr. Aineto Garcia Diego, Prof. Ivan Serina and research fellow Matteo Battisti will present the AI planning approach developed to address the challenges previously mentioned regarding the Red River basin. The presentation will showcase how AI planning models can be applied to optimize resource management, predict environmental changes, and support decision-making processes. By integrating AI technology, they aim to offer innovative solutions for managing complex issues related to flood control, water distribution, and sustainable development in the region.
17 : 00 - 17 : 45
Genetic Algorithm Approach Presentation
The PhD student Hai Yen Nguyen will present her approach to addressing the challenges faced in the Red River basin. She will showcase how the application of genetic algorithms can offer robust solutions to the complex problems identified in the region. By leveraging the adaptive capabilities of genetic algorithms, the aim is to optimize resource management, enhance environmental sustainability, and improve overall resilience in the basin.
17 : 45 - 18 : 00
Conclusions
Professor Ivan Serina will conclude the workshop with a brief speech, summarizing the key insights discussed throughout the event. The speech will also outline the next steps and potential future developments of the project.
